Location: Queen Street, Melbourne
Size: 1,000 sqm
Completed: 2017

Background

The Community & Public Services Union (CPSU) has around 50,000 members working across the country, primarily in the public Sector. With a national ability to provide high quality services across Australia and a growing member base, CPSU needed a larger office space to house its growing staff in a new location only blocks from their existing Melbourne headquarters.

Solution

Amicus partnered with designer, STAR Architecture to design the new 1,000 sqm fitout. CPSU’s accommodation needs included open plan work areas, single offices, quiet rooms, a 50-person training facility, meeting rooms, a large boardroom and kitchen / breakout zone.

Working within a tight time frame and budget, we focussed on maximising natural light and views to as much of the floor plate as possible; and used the colour green as an organic highlight within an otherwise calm and neutral material palette.

Benefit

The kitchen and breakout space was located on the most prominent corner of the building overlooking Queen Victoria Markets, providing a comfortable and stimulating environment for staff to relax and collaborate.

The vibrant green paint wall colour was utilised on the feature wall in the break out area. In a combination with the green and timber joinery finishes, this colour softens up the space and provides a background to a wide vista of the Queen Victoria Markets. A matching green theme is also present as an accent on the glazed panels and gives the floors a contrasting colour highlight.
