Background

As Australia’s largest independent Contract Research Organisation, Novotech was embarking on an exciting change from a traditional, desk and chair environment to a fully agile workspace. An added challenge was the refurbishment of the office while staff were still occupying the space. Novotech was fast outgrowing its existing space and required a look and feel which was contemporary, professional and could be rolled out to its network of offices across Asia. A slick on-brand design was achieved with Bold Collective’s eclectic design flair, coupled with careful budget and timeline planning.

Solution

The product was simple and effective incorporating activity-based working including new spaces consisting of a spacious centralised breakout and kitchen space, repurposed workstations including sit to stand desks, private phone booth rooms, a wellness/prayer room, booth seating, staff storage, enclosed meeting rooms equipped with state of the art teleconferencing units, telepresence room and expansive boardroom.

It was important to the client that there were no individual offices, and that consistent with its ethos of information transparency, all meeting rooms were light with glass walls.

Novotech has embraced the new activity-based workspace which strongly resonates with their culture. John Moller, CEO has remarked; "Novotech has put an enormous amount of effort into redesigning its work practices to facilitate flexible working across the business."

This is an important part of our ambition of becoming the workplace of choice in our industry, and is an important part of our gender equality and inclusiveness agenda allowing effective working from any location at any time - John Moller - CEO, Novotech.

"Before we could implement this workplace design, we needed to make massive investments to ensure that all of our systems and applications were, cloud accessible, unified communications were available from all locations, and regulator approved e-signatures were implemented."

Understanding Novotech’s organisational ambition, a strong relationship and cultural affinity were important factors in Amicus’ selection to propel the transition. Amicus stepped Novotech through the design journey, setting clear intent, understanding their needs and executing solutions which addressed these. The design remained true to the brand and purpose incorporating important features such as a “women in medical research” area and images from each of Novotech’s Asian locations across staff lockers.

The Project Manager maintained live comms rooms and IT server room throughout the project and undertook extreme care not to disrupt operations and software systems. Due diligence was maintained through clear communication with the team and minimal disruption to daily operations.

Benefit

Novotech was thrilled with their contemporary look and feel, attributing the fitout to a more relaxed atmosphere, effective communication between teams, greater engagement and faster decision-making ability due to accessibility to the Executive team. There is the constant process of implementing change behaviours and shifting the traditional notion of ownership.

The relaxed atmosphere brings out the personality of the organisation - Kelly Beadman - Office Manager, Novotech.

Novotech was thrilled with the level of engagement navigating through unchartered territory and the level of timeline and budget control.  The project was handed over just prior to Christmas celebrations and the team now enjoy a happier more relaxed environment.
