Case Study: Autism Spectrum Australia

location, location, location

The location of Autism Spectrum Australia National Office on Sydney's Northern Beaches had a long legacy that no longer felt aligned to their objectives. When they needed to move from their building mid-pandemic, it created an opportunity not just to find a new office space, but to do things a bit differently. The Aspect CEO engaged Amicus Strategy to consult with staff and leaders to develop a property strategy which would provide direction on an ideal future location and space requirement, taking into account their new ways of working.

a collaboration hub

After engaging with Aspect’s leadership and property teams, we were able to define some contrasting scenarios: either stay in the current location and maintain a traditional way of working in a larger office, or find a smaller office footprint in a central, vibrant precinct. Going for option #2 would also mean embracing hybrid working and creating a flexible workplace intended to drive collaboration and connection. Aspect then went to market and found a light-filled, modern space in Chatswood which could be customised to their exact requirements.

The Right Space

For the team at Aspect, a central and accessible location meant reaching larger talent pools, having public transport close by for clients and a vibrant local atmosphere to boost employee experience. The smaller space was a perfect fit for a flexible workplace and a new hybrid way of working for Autism Spectrum employees.

making hybrid work

Aspect defined a working rhythm at two days per week in the office, adopted new technology to support hybrid meetings and embraced a flexible design which provided a platform to enable great collaboration alongside regular team connection. While there are still plenty of desks, there are also many small and large collaboration spaces and a large break out area for socialising and townhall meetings.

connected to purpose

A new workspace has a special power to drive engagement, and with a purpose-driven organisation
such as Aspect, this was an opportunity that couldn’t be passed by. The office was designed to
embrace and support neurodiversity in a sensitive way, incorporating quiet space, a soft colour
palette, directional signage and client assessment rooms.
