Change, Actually

The Opportunity of Your Office Lease Expiry

An office lease expiry brings the changing world of work to the surface in a series of questions.

Do you stay or go? How much space do you need? What does a fit-for-purpose office design look like? How might you use a move or a refurb to better enable your hybrid working approach?

We're delighted to offer a free in-person workshop that equips you to find the right path through these questions and more.

Background

Amicus was engaged in early 2020 to support M&C Saatchi throughout the entire journey of their workplace transformation. With all employees working remotely and a lease expiration looming, a solution needed to be devised which would cater to the significant financial and workplace impacts for years to come.

Through staff survey analysis and leadership depth interviews, Amicus was able to create a workplace strategy document which mapped out their requirements. The plan reduced the need for over half of their existing space, helping them save $20 million over the next 10 years.

Solution

With the strategy in place, Amicus collaborated with design partner Woods Bagot to build a functional and modern workspace which paid homage to the heritage listed space. Some of the standout areas being the main atrium, featuring a statement staircase, and a dynamic break room perfect for team lunches, casual meetings and company events. The Amicus Delivery team worked closely with a heritage consultant to ensure that the structure was protected during construction.

The Amicus Technology team was involved from the outset, ensuring that the digital workplace solution was considered during the whole design and build process, instead of being introduced at the end of the project. This ensured that the technology strategy carefully aligned to the workplace strategic brief, meeting the needs for their hybrid working environment. Meeting rooms are VC enabled with premium microphones and cameras to provide an equitable meeting experience for all attendees. Creative spaces are equipped with intuitive digital whiteboards which can be drawn on and erased with the wipe of a hand. A digital booking system allows staff to simply book the space they need from their email calendar.

Steve Collis

Head of Workplace Strategy

Steve’s light bulb moment was on Day 1 of being a High School teacher. It struck him how deeply our environments – and the assumptions that come with them - shape how we think, feel and behave. This insight led to a blur of teaching awards, international keynotes, academic publishing and leadership roles. On 2016 he joined the commercial world, focusing on organisational culture and flexibility. An expert in hybrid work set ups, Steve mixes inspiring facilitation, data, and diplomacy to find the right answers to the big questions about the future workplace, ways of working and the human experience.

Lisa Justice

Senior Workplace Strategist

Lisa has spent over 15 years researching and strategising around the lived experience of teams and the impact of the built environment on the employee and client experience. Her particular passion is workplace wellbeing, which she sees a foundation for other strategic imperatives such as productivity or the embrace of collaboration. Lisa is as comfortable facilitating C-Suite strategy conversations as she is connecting one on one with staff on the ground. Take the two together and you have Lisa’s perfect recipe: a vision for a workplace that is both transformational and instantly credible at the front lines.

Sophie Fenton

Senior Workplace Strategist

Sophie is a human-centred designer with an extensive career as an innovator, leader, and founder. She has a passion for environments that foster exploration, collaboration and creativity. As at ease working with the C-Suite as she is sitting down with staff, Sophie is skilled at facilitating change. Drawing on her education expertise, she tailors new environments in a co-design process and facilitates change through learning. A multi-award winning educator, Sophie has completed a PhD in the Faculty of Education at Monash University, with a pedagogical focus on human-centred learning for the emerging cyber-physical world.
