Reflecting On 2022 at Amicus

A Message From Our Directors

As the dawn of the holiday season arrives again, we have taken some time to reflect on 2022, our 17th year of business in Australia.

Overall, the story entails an incredible year of growth for our team, with over 250 projects delivered nationally. We would like to thank our team, our suppliers and partners for their support this year.

A Variable Market

The variable market conditions in all three major states dictated that our business oscillated between Landlord funded work and Tenant led projects. Meanwhile, the rush to work out post pandemic “ways of working” for businesses played out inharmoniously in the troubled commercial real estate sector.

The Rise of Hybrid Working

Our employee centric Workplace Strategy model, Touchline, matured into its 5th year of deployment. The team had to grow to respond to the growing demand from organisations wanting to secure the future of their workspace as they encountered the new hybrid working needs of the workforce. More than ever, the effects of the ways of working, size and location of a workplace should now be anchored in a business’ objectives, where staff behaviours have become central to how a business operates within its real estate footprint.

The Integrated Solution

The move to invest in our strategy and design team in 2022, coupled with the success we have enjoyed with our maturing technology business, has transformed the way we work with other businesses to solve their real estate and workplace challenges. The design of a physical workplace, how people interact in it, and the technology they use to enable it, are now widely seen as fundamentally interdependent. We have also added Amicus Finance to our toolbox, giving our customers flexibility on how they fund their technology life cycle.

Our diversification into the Laboratory sector 8 years ago has also stimulated our revenues this year as STEM businesses remain relatively unphased by recent macroeconomic events. This theme continues into 2023 with a very strong pipeline of STEM based projects coming through

Moments of Connection

The post pandemic era has also enabled the team at Amicus to move to the next level of efficiency and productivity as a hybrid workplace, but it has also given us the time to reflect on the key aspects of our culture and how important human connection is in our business. This has driven investment into key inter-company collaboration events, all designed to celebrate our business by bringing the team together.

We have also re-invested into our “5 Year Club”, which is now approaching a membership of 30, representing one third of our cherished workforce. For this, and many other reasons, we have not suffered dramatically from the “Great Resignation”. The Amicus teams in each state have all grown substantially and stabilised well. For us, 2023 is all about knitting ourselves even closer together to further improve our business outcomes internally within the business, and externally with customers, through the projects we deliver with them.

We enter 2023 with a strong forward order book, a stable and happy team and a full bucket of optimism.
