Reception desk for Domain office fitout in Sydney

Background

Domain is one of Australia's leading property marketplaces, connecting people with places through trusted real estate insights, technology and innovation. Following its acquisition by CoStar Group, Domain sought to create a workplace that reflected its evolving business while remaining true to its people-first culture and strong connection to property, place and community. Located within the heritage-listed 100 Harris Street in Pyrmont, the project presented an opportunity to reimagine the workplace experience, transforming the existing environment into a vibrant, welcoming destination that enhances collaboration, supports wellbeing and fosters stronger connections across teams. With a strong focus on sustainability and adaptability, Domain required a workplace that balanced the building's existing character with contemporary functionality, creating an environment that felt both authentic and future ready.

Solution

Working within the unique constraints and opportunities of the heritage building, we delivered a space that carefully integrates contemporary design interventions while celebrating the character and history of 100 Harris Street. Guided by the vision of creating a "home away from home", the fitout introduces a warm and inviting material palette featuring natural finishes, textured surfaces and earthy tones that bring comfort and familiarity to the workplace.

The floorplate was reconfigured to maximise functionality while encouraging greater interaction between teams. A network of connected pathways creates intuitive movement throughout the space, linking a variety of work settings and collaborative destinations designed to support different styles of working. From informal breakout spaces and team collaboration zones to focused work areas and meeting environments, each setting was thoughtfully considered to promote engagement, flexibility and connection.

Sustainability remained a key driver throughout the project, with a strong emphasis placed on retaining and integrating existing building elements wherever possible. Through careful planning, coordination and delivery, the project successfully balanced heritage preservation with modern workplace requirements, creating a seamless blend of old and new that reflects Domain's commitment to innovation, responsibility and long-term value.

Benefit

The completed workspace delivers a highly functional and people-focused environment that strengthens culture, collaboration and the overall employee experience. By embracing the building's heritage character and combining it with contemporary workplace principles, the space offers a unique sense of place that feels both authentic and welcoming.

The variety of work settings empowers employees to choose how and where they work throughout the day, supporting greater flexibility, productivity and wellbeing. The interconnected layout encourages spontaneous interaction and knowledge sharing, helping to build stronger relationships across teams and fostering a more connected workplace community.

Through its thoughtful integration of sustainable practices, adaptive reuse and human-centred design, the workplace reflects Domain's commitment to creating meaningful connections through place. More than just an office, it is a destination that brings people together, supports the evolving needs of the business and provides an environment where employees feel inspired, engaged and at home.
