Background

After four years in the making, Lowe Living’s new headquarters marks an important new chapter for the growing high-end residential developer and builder. Set within Emerald Place in South Melbourne, the 950 sqm workplace was designed as a home for a team of around 70, as well as a space to welcome and inspire clients, partners and collaborators.

For our team, the challenge was particularly unique. As a developer and builder, Lowe Living brings a highly discerning eye to the quality of its own projects. Every finish and detail needed to meet that standard, while the new HQ also needed to represent the business to prospective clients. The space had to feel like a home for the team, while also showcasing the quality and design thinking behind the Lowe Living brand.

Solution

Working in close partnership with Lowe Living and Made For, we delivered a considered workplace shaped around the people who use it every day. The design balances spaces for focused work, collaboration, meetings and connection, with a strong emphasis on materiality, craftsmanship and detail. Each area was considered not only for how it would look, but for how the team would use it throughout the day.

We approached the project delivery with the same level of consideration that reflects the way Lowe Living creates its own residential projects. The space puts at the foreground how people experience and move through it, creating an environment that feels warm, refined and distinctly residential. From the architectural framework by Made For to the considered furniture curation by Wildflower Curation, each element contributes to a workplace that feels more like a home than a traditional office.

Material selection and detailing were central to achieving this feeling. Rather than relying on a typical corporate workplace aesthetic, the project draws on the warmth, texture and considered finishes more commonly found in high-end residential environments. The result is a space that feels sophisticated without losing its sense of comfort, giving the Lowe Living team an environment that feels genuinely their own.

Benefit

The new HQ brings Lowe Living’s team, clients, partners and ideas together under one roof, creating a workplace that supports the next stage of the business. With spaces designed for both focused work and connection, the workplace gives the team greater flexibility in how they work, meet and collaborate, while providing a welcoming environment for visitors.

It also gives prospective clients a tangible experience of the quality, design and attention to detail that Lowe Living brings to its residential projects. Every aspect of the workplace, from the material palette through to the furniture and finishes, contributes to that experience.

Four years after purchasing the site, the completed headquarters provides a fitting home for the team and a physical expression of the business they have built. It is a workplace that reflects where Lowe Living is today, while creating a considered setting for the people, projects and relationships that will shape what comes next.
