Background

isobar is a customer experience agency and the most rapidly growing business within the Dentsu Aegis Network by headcount. They help their clients invent new products and services, make digital platforms, applications, products and campaigns and change their organisations around a customer focus. isobar appointed Amicus, partnering with Hot Black, to design and construct their new office space at Level 4, 111 Cecil Street, South Melbourne. Rapid growth and high end technology were the main driving forces behind the office relocation and design. isobar had a clear vision of how the space would be most practically designed in supporting the team of developers, innovators and inspirators. As a cutting edge, tech savvy and diverse company in regards to age, gender and ethnicity, these factors also influenced the overall design. The vision was to provide people with a ‘space that can be hacked’ - the ability to tailor an environment to suit their creative needs.

Solution

In the final fitout, the furniture is movable, height adjustable and supports an agile ‘swarm and sprint’ style of working. Every wall is pinable, stickable or writable. The need for mass wall space in an open plan environment led to the creation of a customised writable and pinable board and frame system. Three ceiling mounted short throw projectors create an immersive experience in the twenty person seated presentation room, while an adjoining lounge displays a device demonstration wall proving that all client created experiences are compatible on all digital platforms. The mood is created through the use of dark and warm timbers with accents of black, olive and orange across the floor.

Result

The new workspace allows for ideas to occur and develop, be easily picked up and transferred to meeting rooms for client presentations and greater team collaboration. The new workspace offers a variety of settings for people to work, meet and socialize. The design has resulted in a warm and welcoming home to balance the tech nature of what isobar do. Cascading plants and pendant lighting add to the zen ambience. The café is a primary and much enjoyed feature of the workspace.
